Photon etc’s team consists of physicists, optical, electronic, mechanical and software engineers. This group is supported by qualified technicians, a dynamic sales and marketing team and a group of visionary leaders. A global network of partners distributes our products throughout the world.

Finally, three spin-offs were established focusing on applications in the mining industry (Photonic Knowledge), EMCCD cameras (Nüvü Camēras) and in the ophthalmology sector (Optina Diagnostics).

bastien completed a master degree in high energy physics at the University of Montreal and a Ph.D. in astrophysics in co-direction at the University of Montreal and the University of Aix-Marseille. Then, it is as a researcher in the astronomy department of the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) that he developed a technology using volume Bragg gratings to combine images and optical spectra of an object or sample in order to understand its nature. This is how Photon etc. is born from the desire to reveal features of the universe still invisible. Suspecting the potential of this filtre for microscopy, medicine, and the environment, Sébastien Blais-Ouellette decides to push the exploration by turning its instrument towards terrestrial applications, and clear the way for the birth of an outstanding company.

Laura-Isabelle Dion-Bertrand, M. Sc.   -   Sales and Marketing Director

Laura-Isabelle is Photon Etc.’s Director of Sales and Marketing. She harmonizes product development with market strategy while also improving brand visibility.

Her yin/yang of organizational discipline and contagious enthusiasm allow her to jump between executing marketing strategies and securing funding. Both in the pursuit of Photon Etc’s continued growth.

She holds a BS in physics from the Université de Montréal. This is also where she earned a master’s degree in condensed matter physics while working on charge separation in organic photovoltaics.

Her profound understanding of material science has led to numerous publications in collaboration with researchers worldwide. Laura-Isabelle’s knowledge has unlocked new potential for Photon Etc.’s hyperspectral imaging systems.

Simon Lessard, Ing.   -   Director of Infrared Solutions

Simon has spearheaded Photon Etc.’s infrared (SWIR) imaging solutions from day one. His background in design, project management and product development is complemented by a broad and profound understanding of markets and customers’ needs. This pairing enables him to steer the product portfolio towards tomorrow’s markets.

Upon earning his Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering from the École des Technologies Supérieures (ÉTS) in 2005, Simon joined Photon Etc. as a mechanical designer. In 2009, he was tapped to develop an infrared imaging product line. Today, this system is unique in its class and sought out for its performance by industrial, scientific and academic clients; it carved out a niche for Photon Etc. in the process.

Simon, who now ranks as a technology leader, uses his expertise to spur innovation at Photon Etc., keeping it at the forefront of the industries it serves.

Charles Fleury   -   Production Manager

Charles Fleury became Lead Technician and Head of Operational Optimization after spending several years at Photon Etc. mastering the assembly of the LLTF Contrast. His skill was apparent from the improvements to standardization, repeatability and manufacturing throughput time.

His eclectic skills toolkit has grown over a long and winding career. His autodidacticism, attention to detail and appreciation of complex systems allowed him to transition from his beginnings in fine arts to working on the state of the art at Photon Etc.

Years spent in organizations with different approaches to operational efficiency resulted in Charles’ holistic problem-solving style that balances the interests of both his teammates and his company. At Photon Etc, where research, development and manufacturing live side by each, Charles’s is relied upon to harmonize the relationship between prototyping, production, sales and procurement.
